Firefighters rescue resident, dog from Preston Street blaze, douse fire that engulfed vacant building in Greely

It was “a busy night” for firefighters called in to battle two blazes at about 1 a.m. Friday, Ottawa Fire Services said.

On Preston Street, firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls reporting heavy flames from the back of a mixed-use building near Pamilla Street

Crews used ladders to rescue the resident of an upstairs apartment and their dog and had the flames under control at 2:08 a.m. and out at 2:47 a.m.

No one was hurt. A fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause and the Canadian Red Cross and Salvation Army were on hand to help, the fire department said.

Meanwhile in Greely, crews doused a fire that engulfed a vacant building on Herberts Corners Road. Multiple 911 calls came in just before 1 a.m. reporting heavy black smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building. The fire was under control at 2:12 a.m. and out at 3:33 a.m.

An fire Investigator was on the scene to determine the cause, the fire department said.

The 2nd 🔥 on Preston St had heavy flames at the back of the structure upon arrival. The 1st floor was commercial & the 2nd floor was an apartment. Firefighters rescued one adult & their dog out of the apartment. The🔥was under control at 2:08. No injuries. 2/2
