BEIJING — Flooding in western China's Qinghai province from heavy rains has killed 16 people and left 36 more missing, state media said Thursday.
Sudden heavy rains began late Wednesday in Qinghai province's Datonghui and Tu Autonomous County with a population of 403,368, flooding mountains and triggering landslides, according to China's state broadcaster CCTV. .
Rivers turned and flooded villages and towns. Over 6,200 people were affected by the floods.
Local authorities have dispatched 2,000 rescue teams and more than 160 vehicles for disaster relief.
