Florida man dies watching sunrise on beach as sand dunes collapse

In what police called a "tragic accident," a 35-year-old man in Florida was killed after asand dunecollapsed above him. Died while recording video. Sunrise from a beach on the Atlantic coast.

A man believed to be Sean Nagel was killed on Hutchinson Island on Sunday, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

A person who went to the beach early in the morning found part of the victim's body buried in the sand. I found it sticking out of place. police said in a statement.

Nagel was dead for hours before he was found. The Martin County Sheriff's Office said he most likely died of suffocation as a result of being trapped under the sand.

Firefighters then arrived on the scene and dismantled the body. Removed.

``Somehow, when he was there, the mound of sand from that coastal erosion inexplicably collapsed on him.''Sheriff William Snydertold local news station WPTV. I did," Snyder said. "It revealed some sand in his lungs." Snyder told WPTV police that the man had his legs up and leaned against the dunes when they collapsed. He said he thought it was likely.

The sheriff told the press that he had "never seen anything like it" in his law enforcement career.

Nagel's brother, Will Nagel, confirmed the death on social media. He said he was "grief-stricken and still in disbelief" of his brother's death.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Investigators are currently awaiting toxicology tests from the victims' bodies, but officials say tests are unlikely to change the nature of the accident.
