Win one, lose one.

That’s the pattern for the Montreal Force, which dropped a 3-2 decision to the Connecticut Whale on Sunday in Sept-Îles to split a pair of weekend games.

The loss left the Force in third place with a 3-3-0 record.

It’s the third time this season the Premier Hockey Federation expansion team has won the first game in a weekend series before losing the second game.

Kennedy Marchment, the niece of former NHLer Bryan Marchment, scored at 14:19 of the third period to give the Whale (1-1-1) its first win of the season.

Emma Keenan and Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored the other goals for the Whale, while Sarah Lefort and Kathy Howarth countered for the Force.

Montreal rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit to win 4-3 in a shootout Saturday.

Sept-Îles native Ann-Sophie Bettez scored the winning goal in the fifth round of a shootout.

Catherine Daoust scored at 17:33 of the third period to force overtime. Kristina Shanahan and Christine Deaudelin scored the other Montreal goals in the second period with Taylor Baker picking up assists on both goals.

“I thought today’s game was a real character builder,” Force coach Peter Smith said Saturday. “The team played with grit and determination from start to finish. Down 2-0 after the first period, it would have been easy to get away from the plan. But players stuck with it. We got a super contribution throughout the lineup.”

Next up for the Force is a trip to Richfield, Minn., for a pair of games against the Minnesota Whitecaps on Dec. 17-18.
