Four workers were injured when trenches collapsed at the Ajax construction site in Rossland and Westney Streets.
Durham Area Police Sergeant. Joanne Bortoluss told reporters at the scene that she received a call about the incident around 11:59 am on Monday.
As of 2:00 pm, two workers are still trapped, she said. On Monday, one worker was taken to a local hospital and another was flown to Sunnybrook. Both have unexplained injuries.
"The Department of Labor is now on the scene and they are managing this investigation," said Bortras.
She said she was helping firefighters reach trapped workers.
