BERLIN — On Friday, Germany abolished Nazi-era legislation prohibiting doctors from providing information about abortion.
The House of Representatives has resolved to abolish the law. This means that doctors can now provide additional information about abortion without fear of prosecution.
Under the law, German doctors were allowed to offer to end their pregnancy, but were not allowed to provide further details on the relevant procedures. did.
Technically, abortion is completely illegal in Germany. However, under certain circumstances it is permitted and the procedure must be performed within 12 weeks of conception.
"For almost a century, doctors have been banned and punished by penalties for providing factual information about methods and possible risks to women considering ending pregnancy." Said Justice Minister Marco Bushman in a statement.
"Today, this era of distrust of women and distrust of doctors is nearing its end."
A criminal court issued by law since October 1990. The ruling will also be abolished and all ongoing proceedings will be suspended.
