The San Francisco Giants expect left-hander Carlos Rodon to opt out of his contract for next season, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi told the Bay Area media on a conference call Friday.

Rodon, 29, signed a two-year, $44 million contract with the Giants in March, with a clause that he could opt out if he pitched at least 110 innings in the 2022 season. A National League All-Star with the Giants, Rodon delivered 178 innings for San Francisco, going 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA over 31 starts. He was scheduled to make $22.5 million next season.

“Obviously we fully anticipate Carlos to opt out and that will create an opening on our pitching staff,” Zaidi said, according to The Athletic.

Rodon, who pitched his first seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox, is 56-46 in 152 career outings (147 starts) with a 3.60 ERA in 847 1/3 innings.

The Giants hold a 2023 contract option for third baseman Evan Longoria, but their plan for the veteran was not revealed, with Zaidi saying there is a “role for Longo” on next season’s team. Longoria, who turned 37 Friday, was limited to 89 games because of injuries and batted .244 with a .767 OPS and 14 home runs with 42 RBIs.

San Francisco does intend to bring back right-handers Tyler Rogers and John Brebbia, both of whom are arbitration eligible. Rogers, 31, was 3-4 with a 3.57 ERA in 68 relief appearances, while Brebbia, 32, was 6-2 with a 3.18 ERA over 76 appearances (11 starts).
