New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has revealed he underwent previously undisclosed neck surgery in the offseason.

Jones said Thursday that he underwent "non-football-related surgery" early in the offseason after he was pressured over photos circulating during the preseason opener. . Jones finished last season on injured reserve and was cleared for offseason training on April 4. But he said Thursday that the surgery was "100% unrelated" to the on-field injury.

Jones, 25, played only his 11th game in New York in what would be his third NFL season in 2021, but injuries prevented him from playing. He was sidelined and eventually placed on the injured reserve. In those games (all starts), Jones threw for his 2,428 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions and posted his career-high 64.3 shooting percentage.

He failed his seven as well, but the Giants only went 4-7 in those games.

Jones has yet to play a full season in the NFL, missing every season with injury while playing behind his line in the infamous offensive. Owner John Mara admitted the Giants "did everything they could to screw things up [since Jones came here]" this winter.

However, new general manager Joe Shane and head coach Brian Daboll passed him his fifth-year option for Jones' rookie contract for 2023.

The Giants selected Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
