The Atlanta Hawks promoted Assistant General Manager Landry Fields to General Manager on Friday.

He will report to Travis Schlenk, president of the basketball business.

Fields, 34, has spent the last two seasons as an assistant GM. He gained experience in his first front office in San Antonio Spurs, where he spent four seasons. His duties at the Spurs included serving as the general manager of the franchise's G-League affiliate Austin Spurs.

Fields played together at Stanford before the New York Knicks was ranked 39th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft. He played for the NBA for five seasons, averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 255 career games (176 starts) with the Knicks and the Toronto Raptors.

This off-season is expected to be a lively season for the Hawks, who bought the All-Star Dejounte Murray from the Spurs on Wednesday with a blockbuster deal. John Collins and Kevin Huerter, both signed the extension before the 2021-22 season, are one of the Hawks who could enter the trading block.

The Hawks were eliminated in the first round of the five-game NBA Playoffs in April.
