The Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday signed Finnish defenseman Antoni Honka to a three-year entry-level contract.
Honka, 21, will earn $750,000 at his NHL level in 2022-23, and $775,000 in his next two seasons. He earned his $80,000 at his AHL level in all his three seasons and also receives a $210,000 signing bonus.
The Hurricanes selected Honka in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
"Antoni moves the puck and is a right-handed defenseman," Carolina general manager Don Waddell said in his news release. “He is producing at a high level in Finland and I believe he will continue to grow in North America.”
Honka said last season in the Finnish league that he won JYP in his 57th year with Jyväskylä. In the match he scored 37 points (6 goals, 31 assists).
