Hurts looks ‘so good’ in Sunday night win over Packers

Exactly 40 years after John Mellencamp wrote the hit “Hurts So Good” a Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is making him look like a clairvoyant.

With another spectacular performance that saw him rush for more yards than he threw, Jalen Hurts guided the Eagles to a 40-33 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night while also closing the betting odds gap between himself and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the league MFP race.

Hurts carried the ball 17 times for 157 yards while also competing for 16-of-28 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles improved to an NFL-best 10-1.

Earlier in the day, Mahomes had his sixth consecutive game of more than 300 passing yards when he completed 27-of-42 for 320 yards, with a TD toss and an interception, while also rushing for 36 yards on four carries as the Chiefs handed the Los Angeles Rams a 26-10 defeat.

Mahomes leads the NFL with 3,585 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes, while throwing eight interceptions.

Hurts is 14th in passing yards, while along with 17 TD passes, has only been picked off three times.

In terms of passer rating – which is calculated using passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns and interceptions with scores on a scale from 0-to-158.3- the top of the board sees Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa (115.7), Seattle’s Geno Smith (107.9), Hurts (105.6) and Mahomes (105.3).

The updated MVP odds board has Mahomes (-160), Hurts (+350), Tagovailoa (+500), Josh Allen (+1400), Joe Burrow (+1400) and Lamar Jackson (+6000).

Last week Hurts had the third shortest odds, while Tagovailoa was second on the board behind Mahomes.
