The collaboration sees The Brooklyn Circus founder and creative director Ouigi Theodore remix a few iconic Gap styles that date back to 1969 for a “modern-prep” take that merges influences such as music, street style and Black culture, according to a news release.
“Style is an opportunity for us to be honest. Classics are the foundation of what we do at The Brooklyn Circus and Gap is so known for that classic Americana style,” Theodore said in the release. “Gap has always been in my history, which is where I find inspiration for our designs. We took our graphic elements and brought that explosion of energy and culture to iconic Gap styles.
“I’m proud of what we’ve put together and honoured to launch a campaign with Gap that highlights various communities.”
The gender-free collection includes clothing items such as hoodies, sweatpants, rugby shirts and more along with accessories including tote bags and hats. A few designs from the range are also available in children’s sizes.
The collection release is celebrated with a campaign that stars several Black artists, actors, filmmakers and activists such as actor and model Indya Moore, singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun and writer-editor Yahdon Israel. The late Stephen “tWitch” Boss, a longtime supporter of The Brooklyn Circus, is also featured in the campaign.
In honour of the celebrated dancer, choreographer and television personality, who passed away in December, Gap has pledged a donation to the crisis counselling organization The 988 Lifeline.
The price: $12.95 to $118.
