Toronto (AP) —Mark Budzinski, the first base coach of the Toronto Blue Jays, leaves the team after the death of his eldest daughter, Julia.
"Budinsky has been part of the Blue Jays family for the past four seasons," General Manager Ross Atkins said in a statement on Sunday. "This catastrophic loss is felt by our entire organization and we mourn with Bad and his family. I have known Bad for over 25 years and his commitment as father and husband. Always admired at the beginning. He is loved and respected by all of our clubhouses and occupies a special place in our hearts. "

Buzinski and manager Charlie Montoyo left the dugout three times in the second game of the double-header with Tampa Bay on Saturday. The Blue Jays clubhouse was closed after the 11-5 defeat.

Budzinski played four games in Cincinnati in 2003 and retired in 2005. After managing with Cleveland's minor league system, he was a big league staff member in India at the time-2017. Toronto adopted Budinsky in November 2018.
