Lara Trump posted a video on social media of her little boy crying in the pouring rain as Hurricane Ian bore down on Florida this week.

The wife of Donald Trump’s son Eric, Lara Trump showed her 1.6 million social media followers a video of her child — soaked and crying and rubbing his eyes — as he drove a kiddie car down a residential street in heavy rain.

He tells his mother, “I can’t do it,” but she is heard off-camera saying, “You can do it! Let’s go!”

She posted about the situation.

“Thought we had a clear window, turns out we did some character building instead … stay safe everyone.”

The responses from the online world were mostly negative — some thought being out in the rain looked like fun, but the majority referred to the escapade as cruelty and child abuse.

“Cat 4-5 hurricane is at your back door if you haven’t heard. Stop filming children in distress under your care,” is a fairly typical response to the post.

So is, “you keep posting abusive videos of your poor kids crying. I hope someone turns you in to CPS! you’re a horrible excuse for a mother!”

Another person wrote, “Wow. It takes a brave woman to advertise child abuse like this.”

Trump later posted a photograph of her little daughter, laughing in the rain.

She wrote: “And here’s my daughter, having the time of her life in the rain. Cue the crazies.”

Newsweek covered the story and posted a tweet in favour of Lara Trump:

“Lara Trump is a great mother, there is absolutely nothing abusive about getting caught in the rain on a walk! The left is deranged.”

The magazine did point out that the tweet came from Brigitte Gabriel, a conservative author and founder of a group that the Southern Poverty Law Center has said is anti-Muslim.

Lara Trump has been in trouble online before. The sometimes Fox News contributor has been raked over the online coals for last year promoting Trump wine in a twitter post — drinking while one of her children cries nearby — and for various anti-immigrant and anti-COVID-health-measures public statements.

Eric and Lara Trump and family moved into a $3.2 million, five-bedroom, seven-bathroom house at the Trump National Golf Club gated community last year, according to the Miami Herald.
