Yes, there are other buildings in Edmonton with solar panels on their roofs, but the Expo Center is certainly the largest.
In fact, once the$5 million project is completed, it will be the largest rooftop solar array in the country.

Expo Center will have 5,754 solar panels installed in Phase 1 of the project (193,735 sq ft in Halls D to H) and, if approved, Phase 2 will have more panels in Halls A, B and C will be
"TheEdmonton EXPO Center is something of a unicorn when it comes to rooftop solar panels," said his program manager Brad Watson.
"Their size and dimensions, unobstructed view, and no interfering rooftop infrastructure allowed us to build an array of this size."

Expo's solar array will generate at least 2.8 gigawatts of energy per year. That's "the energy equivalent of about 375 households," Watson explains.
Estimated annual savings of approximately $290,000 to $460,000.

Solar system is thought to last at least 25 years increase. The city expects to pay for itself within 10 to 17 years, given fluctuations in energy prices and energy consumption. Phase 1 is expected to be completed in November.
Phase 2 , which supplies about 1.9 gigawatts to the system with an estimated cost of about $3.4 million. Phase 2 will add about $185,000 to $300,000 in additional savings annually, the city said.
Edmonton has 10 other solar projects, with six city solar arrays currently in operation.
