According to the city, an average of 167 mosquitoes are seen per trap per night this week.

That's above the normal average of 43 mosquitoes per trap this time of year, which is why Canadians may increase after this summer.

Russell Eirich, manager of the city's Open Space Services, explained that while it was a big leap, it wasn't unexpected.

"It's not surprising, as we've seen significant rain in the second half of July and overnight rainstorms in August," Eyrich said in media availability on Tuesday.

Despite the amount of rainfall seen in the city this summer, Eirich continues to see long increases. I expect not to.

"I think the numbers will go down. They've probably peaked around this time. Probably [these numbers] should go down, and we're going to keep mosquito programs in place until mid-September like every year."

If residents were concerned about above-average numbers, Eyrich said it could get worse.

"His one-week record for this particular one is 1,719 mosquitoes for him per trap in 1993, or 10% of his expected number," Eirich said. says. “In 2019, we had an average of about 350 mosquitoes per trap.”

He said he was out for seven days.

As for the number of hornets in the city, Mr. Eirich said that what is being seen now is normal for this time of year.

He expects even more bee activity towards the weekend of his labor day.
