London, Ont. crews battle large structure fire on Friday morning

London, Ont., fire crews have contained a large structure fire that saw heavy smoke outside the city’s downtown early Friday.

Fire officials confirm to Global News that they received the 911 call about a blaze at 172 Roberts Ave.

“We had 30 personnel on scene initially … and two Aerial apparatuses,” said platoon chief David Hood.

As of 9 a.m., the fire was quickly knocked down but was not yet under control. Hood said that the fire spread from the main structure to two smaller adjacent buildings.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

While the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and an estimated damage cost has not been determined, Hood predicts that “just the replacement of the structure alone is going to be a million or two.”
