Two shooting victims were found in a parked car on Highway 1 near Kensington Avenue in Burnaby Saturday afternoon
6}Burnaby's Trans-Canada Highway was hit Saturday afternoon, killing a passenger and hospitalizing a driver with a gunshot wound.
The Burnaby RCMP responded to Route 1 on the Kensington Avenue overpass at approximately 2:30 pm.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over, seeking witnesses and dashcam footage from the area. IHIT also reported that the shooting was ongoing in the B.C. gang war.
The passenger was Meysam Zaki, who was 18 years old. The driver is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not released his name.
"We are releasing Mr. Zaki's name in the hope that witnesses will emerge to help create a timeline of his whereabouts leading up to his death," Sgt. Told. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. "Zaki and those associated with the second victim are strongly urged to consult the police. IHIT is committed to bringing justice to this young man's family."
The exact location of the shooting has not been determined, but police have a suspect vehicle: a black Mercedes-Benz SUV. The vehicle was found on fire about two hours later on East Lawn Drive near Beecher Park in Burnaby.
IHIT said victims were targeted and there was no ongoing risk to the public.
