Driver is expected to face charges for impaired driving.
A young man is fighting for his life in a hospital after being hit by a car around 4:15 a.m. Saturday at an exit of the Ville-Marie tunnel in Montreal.
The victim had just got out of a broken-down vehicle when he was hit before the exit for St-Laurent Blvd. and Berri St.

“According to initial information, a Caravan came to a standstill on the side of the road after a mechanical failure, heading east. A 22-year-old passenger then got out of the vehicle and it was then that the driver of a sedan hit him. He suffered serious injuries that put his life in danger,” said agent Nicolas Scholtus, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
The 31-year-old man who was driving the sedan was arrested for impaired driving. He was expected to appear in court Saturday to face charges.
Officer Scholtus reminds motorists to use the utmost caution when stopping on expressways.
“People are asked to stay in their vehicle until the emergency services arrive,” especially since the Ville-Marie tunnel is equipped with surveillance cameras from the Ministère des Transports du Québec.
