'A person who was with the man when he began firing fled and called 911, reporting that the shooter had been acting strangely for several days': VPD
More than three dozen officers swarmed an east Vancouver neighbourhood Sunday night after a man started shooting a gun inside an apartment building.
A man in his 50s who lives in the building is facing firearms charges after the “volatile situation” ended with his arrest, said Vancouver police spokesman Sgt. Steve Addison in a release.

Addison said crisis negotiators and members of the VPD emergency response team were among those who responded to reports a man was firing rounds inside a building near Main and Alexander streets just after 7 p.m. Sunday.
“A person who was with the man when he began firing quickly fled and called 911, reporting that the shooter had been acting strangely for several days,” said Addison.
Police surrounded the building and evacuated neighbours in harm’s way before trying to talk to the suspect.
“About 90 minutes after the first shot was fired, a man exited the apartment armed with a loaded gun and a knife,” said Addison. Officers were able to arrest him after firing less-lethal ARWEN rounds. The suspect was not seriously injured, he said.
No other members of the public or police were injured.
