“Special Constables attended and a male was subsequently arrested and charged as a result. Our Special Constables are currently completing their investigation with continued support from the Ottawa Police Service. We cannot comment further on the incident as it is currently under criminal investigation.”
The statement did not say what charge had been laid. Ottawa police said they had no details about the incident and that it had been investigated by transit police.
In its statement, the city said the emergency intercom on the train where the assault occurred was working, but it had also launched an internal review against its standard operating procedures.
“We can assure our customers that their concerns are being treated with the respect and seriousness they deserve,” the statement said.
“There are multiple layers of safety built into the design and operation of the O-Train system. Safety features such as passenger emergency intercoms, emergency phones, and closed-circuit television cameras are regularly tested to ensure they are fully functional.”
