According to Toronto Fire, the blaze happened on the 14th floor and they forced entry into a unit that had heavy smoke.

One occupant was found without vital signs but regained a pulse after CPR was performed, Toronto Fire said.

The man was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition, according to Toronto paramedics.

On Friday afternoon, fire officials said the man later died of his injuries.

The cause, circumstance and origin of the fire are unknown.

Toronto Fire said crews found a smoke alarm in the unit but didn’t immediately know if it was operational.

Toronto Fire and the Ontario Fire Marshal continue to investigate.
