{ PONTIAC, Illinois (AP) — A jury in central Illinois on Tuesday found a man guilty of murdering his wife, son and neighbor on Christmas Day 2019.

A Livingston County jury found Clifford Brewer guilty. 55, of Cullom, of murder in three murders. We will return the verdict within hours of receiving the case.

Brewer told police he woke up to find his wife, Shirley Brewer, 48. His son, Christian Brewer, 27 years old. His neighbor Norman Walker, 51, died at his home. They all had a single gunshot wound to the head.

Prosecutors explained that Brewer's relationship with his wife had deteriorated and he wanted a divorce.

Walker was invited to the house by Shirley Brewer and the two played loud music in her upstairs bedroom, court documents say. Clifford Brewer told police he fell asleep and hours later found a dead body and a gun near his wife's body.

Prosecutors said the Brewers' washing machine was working and set to superheat disinfection when officers arrived on the scene. After that, raincoats, hats, blankets and slippers were taken out of the washing machine.

The defense argued that Shirley Brewer was responsible for the deaths of her son and Norman Walker, after which a struggle between her and Clifford led to her death.

Brewer could be sentenced to life in prison. Sentencing he is scheduled for October 5th.
