Pinch hitter Justin Upton drew a 1-1 score on a home run, A.J. Puku.

Diego Castillo (6-1) won in 8th place with no points.

Mariners Eugenios Ares started a victorious rally with a lead-off walk against Lutrivino (1-6). Carlos Santana touched the single to the field on the right and sent pinch runner Marcus Wilson to 3rd place. Cal Raleigh reached a field error to load the base before Toro hit the liner in the center right and ended the game.

Both starters were great.

Oakland's Paul Blackburn threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed 4 hits, walked 1 and hit 5. Mariners rookie George Kirby is a right-handed companion who has done seven innings and abandoned one run with three hits. He walked one and made a high career with nine strikeouts.

A scored at the top of the first inning. Tony Kemp drew a lead-off walk on a 3-2 pitch, moving from Ramon Laureano's single to the right in 3rd place. Sean Murphy then lifted the sacrificial fly to the right.

The Mariners had a chance to play Blackburn in the first two innings, but couldn't take advantage of their capital.

Julio Rodriguez, who was named the Rookie of the Month in the American League twice in a row early in the day, led the bottom of the first round with a single up. Rodriguez stole second with a false throw by catcher Stephen Voct and advanced third. Jesse Winker hit the infield fly, and Suarez started a double play of the inning ending alongside short-stop Tony Allen, driving Rodriguez out of third base.

Blackburn cruised from there, retiring 14 consecutive hitters until the seventh Raleigh's one-out double chased him.

A's manager, Mark Cossey, was kicked out by home plate umpire Chris Seagull at the top of six innings for claiming a ball and a strike.
