Brian Anderson hit a home run and a RBI single when the Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 6-3 on Friday night to start a four-game series.

Garrett Cooper made a run to Miami in one of two doubles, and Joey Wendle returned from the injured list to run and RBI 2-4.

Marlins starter Trevor Rogers (4-6) gave up one run with two hits and three steps in five innings. He hit four. Rogers have won their second victory since mid-May — and they both opposed the Nationals.

After dropping four out of five games, four rescuers combined five batters for the Marlins, who won two straight games. Tanner Scott threw 9 times 1-2-3 with 8 saves.

Washington starter Josiah Gray (6-5) suffered his first defeat since May 24, with 10 hits and 6 runs in 52/3 innings. He blanked Miami last month for five innings without a decision.

Keibert Ruiz hit the Nationals homer, who lost two games in a row in three games. Josh Bell recorded two hits and Juan Soto recorded two runs.

Cooper finished 3-5, but Miguel Rojas, Anderson and Wendle all hit twice. The Marlins finished with 12 hits and stranded nine runners.

Anderson started scoring with three home runs and solo shots in the third inning. He offered another run with six singles.

Wendle, who hasn't played in a major league match since May 30 due to hamstring tensions, added an RBI single for the third time and then scored with Cooper's double.

John Berti of Miami ran with a sacrifice fly for the fifth and a fielder's choice for the sixth.

Bell hit Washington only twice in five innings. Lewis was 6th in Dylan Floro, hitting a two-run, two-out home run and pulling the Nationals within 6-3.
