Mets claim INF Jormar Sanchez from waivers from Red Sox

The New York Mets claimed Thursday to unwaive infielder Jormar Sanchez from the Boston Red Sox.

The Mets designated catcher Patrick Mazeika for assignment in the corresponding trade.

Sanchez, 30, was drafted by Boston on Tuesday after batting .108 with two RBIs in 14 games.

He is a hitter with a .243 career batting average in 671 games with the White He Sox (2014-20) and the Red He Sox, with 32 home runs and 217 RBI. .

Sanchez won the gold glove at second base in 2019 and can also play third base. The Mets put infielders Eduardo Escobar (left oblique strain) and Luis Guilume (groin strain) on his 10-day injured list this week.

Mazeika, 28, batted .191 with one home run and six RBIs in his 24 games with the Mets this season.
