The driver and passenger of a vehicle that crashed into a house in Portland, Ont. — sparking a fire that consumed both the building and the vehicle — suffered minor injuries, the Ontario Provincial Police said in an update Monday.
Officers responded to the “spectacular” collision on on Highway 15 just after 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Leeds County OPP said.

The 73-year-old driver and 85-year-old passenger were both rescued from the vehicle and taken to hospital.
“Both are expected to make full recoveries,” police said.
The building was “a total loss” but was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
Police closed Highway 15 at Station Road in Portland to allow Rideau Lakes firefighters to bring the blaze under control, which they did by early evening. The roadway was reopened at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Rideau Lakes OPP Is continuing to investigate the collision.
