KYIV —Russian missiles attacked near the central Ukrainian city of Cherkasy on Sunday, killing one and building a bridge to help connect the western and eastern battle zones, Ukrainian officials said. ..

Cherkasy has been largely unaffected by artillery since the start of the war in February, but Russia has stepped up missile attacks across Ukraine this weekend.

"Today, the enemy has launched a missile attack on the Cherkasy area. There are two strikes near the regional center. One died and five were injured. The infrastructure was damaged." Said regional governor Ihor Taburets on the Telegram app.

He didn't provide any further details, but the presidential adviser told Reuters that one of the missiles targeted the bridge across the Dniepuru River.

"They are trying to limit the eastern movement of our reserves and western weapons," adviser Oleksiy Aresevich said in a message.

"This means that this kind of transfer is going well and is causing major problems."

He knows how much the bridge was damaged. I didn't say it. Reuters was unable to confirm the report on its own. (Report by Pavel Polityuk, written by Alessandra Prentice, edited by Toby Chopra and David Goodman)
