Edmonton — Police say a missing 13-year-old Edmonton girl was found alive in the United States.
Lira Smith, who was reported missing on June 24, was found to be safe in Oregon earlier this morning.
Edmonton Police Insp. Brent Darsade says Smith is currently in a hospital in Oregon for preventive tests.
He states that a 41-year-old Oregon man has been charged with seducing a child and is expected to be charged with additional charges in Canada and the United States. It is not yet clear how he first contacted Smith or how she crossed the US border.
Darsade states that Edmonton police have received support from other Canadian agencies, as well as the FBI and other police services in the United States.
