CHISINAU — Moldova said on Friday it did not recognize Russian “attempts to illegally annex” four Ukrainian provinces that Moscow has partially occupied, and condemned what it called Russia’s unjust war with Ukraine.
The small former Soviet republic is wary of Russia’s intentions as Moscow has troops and peacekeepers based in Moldova’s Transdniestria breakaway region, and Chisinau relies heavily on Russian energy.

“Our country reaffirms its strong support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders,” the former Soviet republic’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
