Montreal is infested with rats, Ensemble Montréal charges

Calls on the Plante administration to take the situation more seriously.

The city has become a rat-infested and dirty place, Montreal’s opposition charged Tuesday.

It is calling on the Plante administration to take the situation more seriously and act to prevent rodent outbreaks.

“Our plan will better control the presence of rats in Montreal, but will also address the important cleanliness issues that persist in our city,” said Stephanie Valenzuela, the opposition Ensemble Montréal’s environment spokesperson. “To quote the mayor of New York, ‘our city deserves better than rats, graffiti and dirt.‘ “

The opposition says calls to exterminators have quadrupled so far this year.

A detailed plan will be submitted at the next city council and presented in the form of a motion.

Inspired by plans already in place in other major cities, the motion will be presented at the Feb. 20 city council meeting.
