Montreal’s police service said it has set up seven new secure trading areas where online shoppers can go to complete their transactions.

The lit and permanently monitored areas are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Montreal police said Wednesday.

The new locations, some of which will only be ready next month, will bring to 11 the number of secure exchange zones that are open on the island of Montreal. These zones are inside neighbourhood police stations in central, eastern and western Montreal, in boroughs including Mercier—Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Lachine, St-Léonard and Verdun.

The complete list of locations can be consulted on the police service’s website.

Other secure areas may be created at a later date, Montreal police said.

Making an appointment to finalize a transaction in a secure exchange area greatly reduces the possibility of fraud or theft.
