Brussels — NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has been diagnosed with herpes zoster and will hold upcoming talks in Germany and Romania only in remote areas, NATO officials said Thursday.

"The Secretary-General will make his planned visit to Germany (and Romania) remotely rather than directly," officials told Reuters. "He was diagnosed with shingles. Shingles can occur after COVID-19 and he works from home."

Stortemberg said in mid-May. The COVID-19 test was positive.

At the time, a spokesman for the Western Military Alliance said he had mild symptoms and was working from his home.

Stoltenberg was scheduled to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin on Thursday and with Romanian, Polish and Hungarian leaders in Bucharest on Friday. (Report by Sabine Siebold, edited by Mark Heinrich)
