Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant captured the NBA’s Most Improved Player award last season. Let’s take a look at three candidates that could take home the honour this year.

Anthony Edwards +1000

The former number one overall pick from 2020 is heading into his third season in the league. He’s had two solid campaigns so far, but could be ready to truly breakout in year three. The 22-year-old put in a lot of work this offseason, refining his game and it looked evident in his first preseason game when he scored 24 points in just under 23 minutes of action. With Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell on his team, it may be tough for the Timberwolves guard to get enough touches to put up huge numbers, but his talent is unquestionable.

Tyrese Haliburton +1100

Joining Indiana in a mid-season trade last year, Haliburton impressed in his 26 games with the Pacers averaging 17.5 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 9.6 APG. Now heading into his first full season with Indiana, the 22-year-old is in a prime spot to succeed. While the Pacers did select dynamic Canadian guard Benn Mathurin with the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, this is still Haliburton’s team as he is undoubtedly the straw that stirs the drink.

Zion Williamson +1400

There is no doubting the talent Williamson possesses. The question has always been whether or not he can avoid injuries. A foot injury and subsequent surgery robbed him of his entire 2021-22 season. However, the third-year forward has come into training camp in much better shape.

It was only two seasons ago that Williamson averaged 27 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 3.7 APG in 61 games for the Pelicans. If he can remain on the floor and off the injured list, the sky is the limit for the former number one overall pick.
