Sam Hartman passed for 234 yards and two touchdowns as No. 22 Wake Forest defeated host No. 23 Florida State 31-21 in an ACC game Saturday.
Hartman, who threw six touchdown passes in a 51-45 overtime loss to Clemson last week, completed 22 of 34 and did not throw an interception. Justice Ellison added 114 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries for the Demon Deacons (4-1, 1-1).

Jordan Travis completed 23 of 35 for 281 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions for the Seminoles (4-1, 2-1).
Ellison ran 12 yards for a touchdown on the first possession of the second half, increasing the Wake Forest lead to 28-7.
Florida State responded on the ensuing possession when Travis threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Mycah Pittman to trim the lead to 28-13.
At the end of the ensuing possession, Pittman had a 34-yard punt return to the Deacons 33. The Seminoles reached the 20, but a holding penalty and a sack led to a punt.
Wake Forest took the 15-point lead into the fourth quarter, then Travis’ 4-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Wilson and a two-point conversion pulled Florida State within 28-21 with 9:32 remaining.
The Deacons converted a fourth and 3 on their way to Matthew Dennis’ 27-yard field goal that pushed the lead to 31-21 with 2:55 left.
The Seminoles lined up for a 50-yard field goal with more than a minute to play, but they were penalized for delay of game and Ryan Fitzgerald missed from 55 yards out.
Travis threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Pittman to complete an 83-yard drive in less than two minutes on the first possession of the game.
The Deacons’ Christian Turner ran 1 yard for a touchdown on fourth and goal, tying the score at the end of the first quarter.
Wake Forest took the lead when Hartman threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to A.T. Perry.
On the ensuing possession, Travis lost a fumble at the Florida State 39. That led to Hartman’s 20-yard touchdown to Donavon Green on third and 8, increasing the lead to 21-7 at halftime.
