Genre: Folk/rock
Key track: Christmas Eve
Classic rock and medieval folk fans alike can rejoice.
Winter Carols, the seasonal recording from legendary former Deep Purple guitar hero Ritchie Blackmore and vocalist Candice Night and their band of minstrels is being released on vinyl for the first time this holiday season. The six song set includes an updated take on Christmas Eve (2021 version) as well as such classics as Silent Night, Good King Wenceslas and others.
About as far away from Highway Star or Smoke on the Water as you can get, the collection boasts lush production, enough blasting horns to shake the castle walls and — naturally — all kind of lead guitar. You can put the rocker in renaissance tights, but you can’t turn the amp down below ye olde eleven.
