Ohio woman died in hospital and propped up to look alive, family claims

A 65-year-old Ohio woman who was in hospital recently for a routine procedure died during surgery and was later propped up to disguise her death, her family claims.

The unidentified woman was reportedly in good health and walked into Adena Health System in Chillicothe, 75 km south of Columbus, for a routine heart catheterization but never left, reports the Scioto Valley Guardian.

According to hospital records, the woman died at 1 p.m. but the death certificate indicated 3:05 p.m.

The patient’s family said they were ushered in by doctors to see her at 3:05 p.m. and urged to make an immediate decision to take her off life support.

They added her body was propped up to look alive and a ventilator was used to stage a “fake alive” pose.

According to sources within the hospital, a cardiologist had cut an artery during the heart catheterization procedure but allegedly believed the situation was under control.

When the patient was discovered to still be bleeding internally in the intensive care unit, another doctor was called in. Medical records show the woman died while the second doctor tried to repair the artery.

Following an investigation by the Guardian, NBC affiliate WCMH in Columbus and Becker’s Hospital Review, the cardiologist who initially performed the procedure allegedly lacked proper credentials, according to 31 individuals who reportedly came forward with the claims.

The family has requested an independent autopsy after pointing out the county coroner works for Adena Health.

The hospital has not commented on the allegations.
