Last week, Israel arrested Bassam Al Sadi, a senior radical of Islamic Jihad War, in one of his nightly operations in the West Bank city of Genin. According to armed groups, the twelve killed were Islamic Jihad militants, one from a smaller armed group and two Hamas-related police officers who were not involved in the fighting.

Israel occupied the West Bank during the 1967 Middle East War, and Palestinians sought the West Bank as the center of the future nation. Israel considers the West Bank to be the biblical and historic center of the Jews and has built dozens of settlements now home to more than 400,000 Israelis.

Palestinians and the international community consider the reconciliation on the West Bank of Israel to be a violation of international law and an obstacle to the peaceful resolution of decades of conflict.
