Ramallah, West Bank (AP) — A Palestinian teenager died and dozens were injured in clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian medical sources say. said early Thursday morning.
Palestinian Red Crescent Emergency Services said 18-year-old Wasim Khalifa had died and 35 Palestinians were injured in the city of Nablus in the north of the West Bank.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the violence. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
After a series of deadly attacks inside Israel in the spring, Israel has carried out near-daily arrest raids in the West Bank aimed at what they say are extremist networks. The raids often sparked confrontations with stone-throwing Palestinians and firefights with militants.
Israel occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East War and built dozens of settlements that are now home to nearly half a million Jewish settlers.
Palestinians want the West Bank, home to about three million Palestinians under Israeli military rule, to form a major part of their future state.
The last serious substantive peace talks broke down more than a decade ago.
