That included $6,053,558 raised in December alone, pushing the fourth quarter fundraising total up to $9,677,509. The annual total is lower than the $26 million the Conservatives raised in 2021, which was an election year, but the $9 million raised in the fourth quarter is the most the CPC has raised in a quarter in a non-election year.
The fundraising tally is impressive given the tumultuous year the Conservatives experienced.
In February there was a coup against then leader Erin O’Toole, forcing him to step down.
The leadership race, which at times took a nasty and divisive tone, didn’t wrap up until September when Poilievre took the race on the first ballot. Since then, there has been a massive turnover of party staff and people in key volunteer positions in the party’s leadership.
Totals for the other parties are expected to be released later Monday but if trends continue, the Conservatives will outperform their rivals as they had in previous quarterly findings. From April 1 to June 30, while the party was leaderless, the Conservatives raised $4.4 million more than the Liberals ($2.8 million) and New Democrats $($1.2 million) combined.
