Praising Peterborough police officers after mowing lawns during resident health checks

The Peterborough police officer has moved from duty to the lawn to help the city's residents.

The photo of Peterborough Police Department officers mowing the lawn of a city home has been flooded with praise and appreciation. The service shared a photo on its Facebook page Thursday morning, noting that the act took place during a health check for the 76-year-old resident.

Resident had recent medical procedures. The inhabitants were distraught because they could not mow the lawn.

Insp. Jamie Harnett says officers spent several minutes clearing the grounds with a lawnmower.

"(The police) found someone who was in distress," Harnett said. “One of the concerns they faced was that the lawn was so unkempt that they could not physically care for it.

It took 5 minutes and put the person at ease.It was a great positive story and very refreshing for our members.

Harnett said he spoke to the officer Wednesday night about the gesture on social media platforms.

"They weren't looking for accolades," said Harnett. "They want their names never mentioned. Officials are just doing their job and others will expect the same."

Harnett , said the conduct was "not unusual" for officers.

"They are very social. They are committed to the community. They are very enthusiastic....Personally, I think the officers are very nice," Harnett said. }

“Our officers sign up to make an impact and help people. It's nothing more than," Harnett said.

``Many people who correspond directly to the police may not see us at our best, but we just want to show that we are human. We care, we do our best for people, we want to help them.”
