MONTREAL — Quebec's independent police watchdog A Senegalese diplomat was detained and beaten by police on the outskirts of Ottawa last week.
Bureau des enquetes independantes said Mr Guy Lapointe said the surveillance agency had initiated the investigation by requesting copies of reports made after the incident.
A diplomat working at the West African embassy in Ottawa had to be hospitalized after being handcuffed and beaten by police in Gatineau, Quebec on 2 August, the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Said... home.
Gatineau police responded that they had arrested a woman who punched a police officer in the face, adding that she was knocked to the ground after she allegedly bit another police officer.
On Saturday, Quebec Public Safety Minister Geneviève Gilbert said he had asked the watchdog to investigate and said there were questions surrounding the incident.
Lapointe said the watchdog does not routinely publish news releases containing preliminary information about the facts of the incident.
