The agreement, which the FTA's Board recommends for ratification by its members, covers a period of six years. While no other details were disclosed, Education Minister Jean-François L'Oberge referred to a "significant investment" and said the deal "will promote the stability of the school's transport sector and It ensures the safety of students and meets the many expectations of transporters.”
Contracts are not signed directly by the government, but by the School Service Center and the Board of Education. Many of the contracts expired on June 30th. Faced with the turmoil, the Quebec government on Wednesday appointed Claude Saubagot as its special negotiator. Contract renewals were complicated by inflation in fuel costs.
