Montreal — 26-year-old man 3 in Montreal Quebec's chief coroner has opened a public inquest after the alleged shooting of a man in the area last week before he was murdered by police.
Pascale Descary said today her coroner Gehane Kamel will investigate the deaths of her Andre Lemieux, Mohamed Belhaj, Alex Levis-Crevier and suspect Abdulla Shaikh. .
Shaikh was killed Thursday morning by Montreal police after gunning down three of his victims on the street within about 24 hours.
State Police said his 26-year-old man, known to have mental health problems, appears to have randomly selected the victim.
Quebec's Mental Health Review Board said in March that Sheikh was under the supervision of a mental hospital, posing a "significant risk" to public safety, but continuing to live in the community. made the decision that it was possible.
Descary said the study will analyze the factors that contributed to the deaths and make recommendations to prevent similar tragedies.
