Martine Biron, Quebec’s minister responsible for relationships with the Francophonie, is flying to Paris on Sunday, where she is due to meet with representatives of international organizations.

In a statement, the minister’s office said the trip would be an occasion for her to consolidate the relationship between Quebec and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.

During her trip, Biron will also meet representatives from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

“I intend to make Quebec’s voice heard in the world,” Biron said in a statement. “Let’s remember that Quebec’s leadership is recognized on the world scene, particularly in terms of the Francophonie, culture, education and the energy transition.”

She plans to address the promotion of the French language, notably through the discoverability of French content online, but also through artificial intelligence and gender equality.

The potential inclusion of Anticosti Island on UNESCO’s World Heritage List will also be discussed.

This diplomatic trip comes just months after November’s Francophonie summit in Tunisia.

Biron also travelled to Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire in late January.
