Remparts’ offence struggles, but they’re winning in QMJHL early going

QUEBEC — The Quebec Remparts have only scored four goals in two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games, but they’ve got two wins to show for it.

The Remparts, who blanked the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 1-0 on Friday in their regular-season opener, beat the Victoriaville Tigres 3-1 on Saturday at Centre Videotron.

Lucas Canning, Frantisek Ridzon and Davis Cooper scored for the Remparts, who enjoyed period leads of 1-0 and 3-0.

Nikita Prishchepov scored for the Tigres at 15:56 of the third to spoil the host’s shutout bid. The Tigres outshot the Remparts 31-24.

In other action, Baie-Comeau Drakkar literally turn on the lights for their home opener by thumping the Rimouski Oceanic 7-1.

Justin Poirier scored three goals for the Drakkar, with singles netted by Isaac Dufort, Xavier Fortin, Matyas Melovsky and Mael Lavigne. Fortin also had three assists.

Quinn Kennedy scored the lone goal for the visitors, 48 seconds into the game.

Baie-Comeau outshot the Oceanic 36-25 and led 3-1 and 4-1 after periods.

The Val-d’Or Foreurs unplugged the host Drummondville Voltigeurs 7-2 as seven different goal scorers supplied the offence for the visitors, who evened their record to 1-1 following Friday’s 4-2 loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. The Voltigeurs slipped to 0-2.

Tomas Cibulka, William Provost, Zachael Turgeon, Alexandre Doucet, Thomas Larouche, Nathan Bolduc and Zigmund Zold scored for the winners.

Luke Woodworth and Lukas Landry scored for the Voltigeurs, who outshot the Foreurs 37-29.

In later games, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens play the Phoenix in Sherbrooke, while the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies play the Armada at Blainville-Boisbriand.
