Austin, Texas (AP) — The US Department of Justice is investigating a potential civil rights infringement in a multi-billion dollar border security mission in Texas. D.C., according to public records.

A state police lawyer confirmed in a May email that Governor Greg Abbott had investigated the federal government's initiative to curb people migrating from Mexico. This is a record set by ProPublica and the Texas Tribune. The state prison system also quoted a "formal investigation" in a letter seeking to withhold public records related to Operation Lonestar.

Human smuggling attempts have killed 53 people on trailer trucks, highlighting the limits of state and federal border control, revealing investigations. The intersection along the entire southern border is at or near the highest point in about 20 years.

Last year, Republican Abbott, seeking reelection, deployed a large law enforcement agency on the border, alleging inaction by President Joe Biden's administration. The surge in police officers has triggered arrests — including trespassing, low-level marijuana, and other minor crimes that appear to have little to do with border security. Some detained people spent several weeks in state prisons.

Emails from Texas Public Safety Department officials may have caused federal authorities to violate laws against discrimination based on race, color, or country of origin by federal-funded organizations. It indicates that you are investigating whether or not you have sex.

A spokesperson for the Civil Rights Department of the Justice Department declined to comment. A Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman did not respond to a request for comment, and a Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman did not immediately provide comments.

Since April, Abbott has also offered immigration bus rides to Washington, D.C., saying it has brought immigration issues to the front door of Congress. To date, about 3,000 migrants have taken part in the trip at a cost of over $ 5 million.

Efforts have not stopped the recent increase in intersections at the southern border. Authorities prevented migrants from illegally crossing 523,000 times between January and May, up from 417,000 times in the same period a year ago.
