The Chicago Cubs claimed to have waived designated hitter/outfielder Franmil Reyes from the Cleveland Guardians, multiple news outlets reported Monday.
The Guardian named the struggling slugger — his No. 4 hitter in the season opener — for Saturday's duty.
Reyes, 27, has batted .213 with nine homers, 28 RBIs and .603 OPS in 70 games this season.
He's a .253 career batting average with 101 homers and 259 RBI in 481 appearances for the San Diego Padres (2018-19) and Indians/Guardians (2019-22). .
