Fire crews were called to the building on Richmond Road between Cleary and Lockhart avenues just after 8 a.m., the fire department said in a media release.
The building’s fire panel showed arriving firefighters that the alarm was sounding on the eighth floor, where they found a haze of smoke and a fire in the entrance of one of the apartments.
Firefighters searched the unit and found one person in the bedroom, who was brought to paramedics downstairs.
The fire was under control at 8:16 a.m. Crews used high-pressure fans to clear the smoke and took air quality readings to make sure it was safe for other residents to return home.
A fire investigator was at the scene to find the cause and origin.
