Richmond Hill trio charged in fake gift card scheme

Three Richmond Hill residents have been charged in a $500,000 fraudulent retail gift cards investigation dubbed Project Wash.

Toronto Police say between July 2022 and January 2023, the trio operated a forgery lab used for altering and manufacturing retail gift cards.

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, police executed search warrants at a business in Toronto and a home in Richmond Hill and seized a vast amount of fraudulent gift cards valued at approximately $500,000, computer equipment and electronics used for altering and manufacturing gift cards and a quantity of fake government identity documents.

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Iouri Perett, 38, and Vitalii Fokov, 35, both of Richmond Hill, were each charged with fraud over $5,000, deal in altered gift cards, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.

Elizaveta Perett, 34, of Richmond Hill, was charged with possession of proceeds obtained by crime.
